Abstract

Acinetobacter spp. have emerged in recent years as a major cause of nosocomial infections that are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Developing resistance patterns have prompted the suggestion that we are closer to the end of the antibiotic era with Acinetobacter than with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (J Hosp Infect 58, 2004, 167). © 2005 The Society for Applied Microbiology.
