Media Alternatif Seni dan Konstruksi Identitas Studi Kasus Tentang Zine Blcak Metal Istiqomah

Abstract

Zine Black Metal Istiqomah is a form of alternative media that carries the theme of a hybrid identity of black metal and Islam. Using the concept of a combination of underground black metal music identity and Islamic identity, the Black Metal Istiqomah zine narrates a religious message in a informal language without the intention to force. Using a qualitative research method, this research focuses on investigating how the strategy of the artist in negotiating and constructing the two opposing identities. The research was analyzed textually using Roland Barthes's semiotic theory to understand the work design and visual form of the Black Metal Istiqomah zine. The visual form of the work is then analyzed contextually using the Jan Pieterse hybridity theory to reveal the process of negotiating the black metal identity and Islamic identity. The results of this study indicate that the Black Metal Istiqomah zine undergoes a negotiation process in the visual form of the work, in the form of a visual simplification of several identity symbols. The black metal identity in the zine acts as a visual sign of the work, while the Islamic identity plays a role in the content of the story. Finally, the zine Black Metal Istiqomah is a form of amalgamation of identities that has succeeded in creating an artistic identity and indirectly creating a hybrid or new form of identity, namely Black Metal Istiqomah among its fans.
