Abstract
With this inaugural issue, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) launches its new journal, Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR). Since its founding in 1936, SPSSI has had as two of its primary goals (a) encouraging research on important social issues and (b) promoting the utilization of such research in formulating social policies and ameliorating social problems. SPSSI has been especially associated with the three Ps (peace, prejudice, and poverty). The range of topics is, however, much more extensive (e.g., environmental sustainability, gender issues, sexual orientation, and on and on). In the current SIPR issue, there is an examination of such SPSSI topics as the relationship between research and policy, media effects on children, intergroup relations as a factor in healthcare and in educational and employment experiences, and ageism. Thus in launching SIPR we hope that you find the articles in this and subsequent issues pertinent, useful, and worth mentioning to others with similar interests-both inside and outside of academia.
