Abstract

Terrorist groups engage in a wide variety of formal press relations activities thatmake it difficult to maintain that they engage in violence for its own sake. Many groups engaging in terrorism and low-intensity conflict are becoming increasingly adept at using publicity techniques and dealing with media. This article explores and illustrates the different types of press relations commonly undertaken by terrorist organizations. The author argues that large and small groups both engage in publicity efforts, but employ different patterns of press relations activities. © 1989.
