Abstract

We have utilized a biologic reaction (vaso-dilation) to measure penetration through the epidermis of nicotinic acid and seven closely related derivatives. We have also determined the partition coefficients and the absolute solubiities of these substances in water and ether. A correlation is shown between the ease of percutaneous absorption of a given compound and the absolute and relative solubilities of these compounds in ether and water.
