Abstract
Objective: To adapt and to validate a self-administered questionnaire measuring psychological variables related to adherence behaviors (PVAB) among women with breast cancer. Method: A cross-sectional study was performed with 110 women who were being treated at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, in Lima, Peru. For data treatment three consecutives statistics procedures were applied: an exploratory factorial analysis; the Cronbach's alpha (a) coefficient, as well as the Pearson's correlation coefficient (r). Results: A three-factor structure was found with values above 1 that, taken as a whole, explain 45,6% of the variance. Also, an overall Chronbach's a coefficient = 0, 70 were obtained. Significant and differential correlations at p < 0.01 y p < 0.05 values were found between behaviors ("Accomplishment Appointments with the Specialist", "Accomplishment Appointments to Receive Treatment at HealthCare Institution", "Following a Diet", "Making Exercises for Rehabilitation", and "Caring Body Parts from Heat Exposition") with the three factors of the instrument ("Past Behavioral Competences", "Motives and Health-Related Competences", as well as "Disease and Treatment-Related Competences and Social Adjustment"). Conclusion: According to the results obtained, the instrument has optimal reliability, construct validity as well as concurrent validity, which allow us their future use among women with breast cancer from Peru.
