Abstract

GenBank accession U47832, Hypocrella sp., has been used in numerous phylogenetic studies involving ascomycetes but has not been identified to species previously. We have examined the specimen from which the sequence was obtained and have identified it as Hypocrella nectrioides (Ascomycetes, Hypocreales, Clavicipitaceae). It is one of only two species of Hypocrella for which sequences are deposited in GenBank. Except for a brief description by Fetch (1921) structural features of H. nectrioides have not been previously published. We document the morphology of the teleomorph and anamorph of this poorly known species.
