Abstract
Prominent multiculturalism and multilingualism mark the Peruvian educational context; therefore, education based on intercultural dialogue and teaching a native language is urgently demanded. In this context, our research is oriented to discover the conceptions that emerged from the reading of a corpus of short stories, with a clear presence of the Quechua language, by Peruvian schoolchildren, and how these conceptions are related to the preservation of Quechua and with the formation of interculturality in urban contexts. The research is based on a qualitative methodology since, from the reading of three stories by José María Arguedas, the impressions of the schoolchildren are collected through a discussion group. The results show that spreading the Quechua language and establishing intercultural dialogues in urban spaces through literary texts, especially short stories, is possible. The reading of the stories has made the participants develop feelings of curiosity, admiration, and respect regarding the knowledge and customs of the Quechua culture, their language, and the worldviews of the Andean society.
