Abstract

Summary: In the framework of the prevention of the forest fires, the thermal analysis technics can be used to determine the behavior of the vegetable to the heat. The different aerial parts (needle, branch, cone) of Pinus halepensis (Aleppo Pine) present thermal analysis curves of DTA and DTG close enough, whatever are the degree of maturation and the date of the picking. The choice of the maximal decomposition rate at about 300° by DTG of the dried powder of the vegetable samples containing cellulose, holocellulose, lignin, as bio-polymers, may be perhaps considered as important in the risk evaluation of ignition. © 1998, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
