Abstract

This paper describes the design process of a permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine. The designed machine is meant to be optimized and designed in the viewpoint of lifecycle based optimization methodology proposed by the authors. Suitability of permanent magnet assisted synchronous machines for the use in various applications is explained. Proposed optimization methodology is described. Finite element method based calculations and preliminary results of the design process are presented and analyzed. Necessity of new methodologies is pointed out. © 2014 IEEE.
