Abstract

Reaction of 2,3,3-trimethyl-3H-indole with dimethylformamide/POCl 3 and then aqueous NaOH produces 2-(diformylmethylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethylindole, C13H 13NO2. The crystal structure shows the molecule to be planar, with the exception of the two methyl groups, which lie above and below the plane. © 2006 International Union of Crystallography All rights reserved.
