Abstract

The capitulum on the eggs of the South African stick insect Bacillus? coccyx functions in a similar way as elaiosomes on seeds. Ants use the capitulum to carry the eggs, removing and eating it without reducing egg viability. © 1991, Hindawi Publishing Corporation. All rights reserved.
