Os descaminhos da imigração alemã para São Paulo no século XIX: aspectos políticos

Abstract

Resumo A Intenção desse artigo é enfocar a política de imigração durante o período monárquico, e os entraves para o estabelecimento de núcleos coloniais estrangeiros em território brasileiro. Sempre controverso, o tema da imigração gerou inúmeros debates entre os políticos do I e II Reinados, devido à forma de implementação desse tipo de mão-de-obra e sua real necessidade para uma sociedade escravocrata como a Imperial. As difi-culdades de adaptação do estrangeiro à nova terra e às novas Relações de trabalho também são preocupações cruciais desse estudo. Abstract This article focuses on the mass immigration politics during the 19th century and the restraints to the establishment of outlander communitiesin the Brazilian territory. Always controversial, the mass immigration generated many debates among politicians during both the First and Second Reign in Brazil, mostly because of the ways this kind of workmanship should be implemented and its real needs (or utility) in a country where the majority of the labour force was constituted by slaves. The article also deals with the difficulties concerning the adapatation of the outlander to the territory and to the working relations that were dominant in Brazilian society.
