Abstract

Twelve sesquiterpenoids, one of which was a new compound, six tirucallane-type triterpenoids, and four flavonoids were isolated from the fruits of Schinus molle L. (Anacardiaceae). Their chemical structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic data and X-ray analysis. Among them, three flavonoids exhibited almost identical antioxidative activity as that of α-tocopherol by the ferric thiocyanate method. In addition, one flavonoid showed a stronger radical-scavenging effect on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl than that of α-tocopherol. © 2008, Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology.
