Abstract

We present the case of a patient who first developed symptoms of celiac disease while on interferon-based therapy for treatment of chronic hepatitis C. He required hospital admission for symptom management and diagnostic work-up of severe diarrhoea. He made a rapid recovery with a gluten-free diet and was able to continue therapy. Consideration should be given to screening for celiac disease prior to the commencement of interferon-based therapy, particularly in highprevalence populations.
