Abstract

Core histones are the building block of chromatin and among the most highly conserved proteins in eukaryotes. The related "deviant" histones share the histone-fold domain, and serve various roles in DNA metabolism. We provide here a structural and functional outlook of H2A/H2B-like deviant histones in transcription, replication and remodeling. © 2013 Landes Bioscience.
