Abstract

Companies have to meet clients’ requirements and, at the same time, be cost effective to survive. In order to minimize costs, companies implement lean manufacturing concept and lean tools such as the value stream mapping (VSM) to identify and then eliminate waste. VSM allows a static analysis therefore the authors of this work propose integration of VSM with system dynamics analysis (SDA). Hence, first in the work an extended VSM is presented. Then, on the base of a developed extended value stream map (VSMap) for an automotive industry case study, an adequate simulation model was created. For simulations Vensim software was used. The case study of manufacturing line dynamics were analyzed. In the analysis, the inventory limitations were taken into consideration as well as disturbances such as machine failures and nonconformities. As a result, the dynamics of inventory levels and work stands load were presented.
