Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate the capability of the 2D and 3D numerical models to simulate the flow of flood waves in the presence of several structures on downstream. The 2D numerical model based on Finite Volume method (FVM)-Godunov type to solve 2D non shallow water equations is proposed. The commercially-available CFD software package Flow 3D solved Navier-Stokes equations along the volume of fluid (VOF) method to track the location of the free surface at the air water interface. The computed results such as the stage hydrographs, the variation of velocity components with respect to time were compared to the results of the experiments and showing good agreement. In addition, force acting on each structure is computed and verified with the experimental data.
