Abstract
The aim of this article is to evaluate the NGO support to care giving in the Kanye care programme. This research was exploratory and qualitative in design, and included 82 primary caregivers and five CHBC nurses. Findings indicate that care giving faces the challenge of inadequate NGO/CBO support. This is attributable to inadequacies in funding by donor communities; insufficient assistance from the government and civil society; weak community mobilisation to start NGOs; and government mistrust of the NGOs. The government has been advised to change its mindset and start helping the NGOs. The government should perceive them as complementary organs of the development process.
