Abstract
The aim of this article is to shed a new light on both the unquestioned truths and the grey areas of school violence. It is an attempt to establish a framework for discussion by highlighting both the dominant trends and the friction zones. It revolves around two notions: standards and professionality, and questions the problem of school violence as a social construct. That interrogation will shed a new perspective on the permanence of school violence and its current manifestations, the recurrence of responses and the form they currently take, as well as the questions raised about the teaching profession, and beyond, about the purposes of education.
