Abstract

In this chapter, we address the question that runs throughout this volume: What do we, and what do we not, know regarding the field of LGBT-parent families? First, we highlight what has been learned from the major findings in this area of family research. Second, we move on to three major themes (i.e., intersectionality, intergenerational relationships, and increasing the visibility of bisexual- and transgender-parent families) regarding what we are learning about the understudied topics and groups addressed in this volume. Third, we describe what we have learned from emerging research methods as applied to LGBT-parent families. Fourth, we address applications to clinical practice, law, and school settings. Finally, we conclude with observations and suggestions about the future of research, theory, and praxis on LGBT parenting and LGBT family scholarship.
