Abstract

The PERMA model of positive psychology was developed by Martin Seligman, who emphasised five core elements that form the foundation of this model, namely: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment. As the contemporary workplace is characterised by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and agility, integrating Seligman’s PERMA framework into human resource strategies offers a transformative approach to fostering work-life balance and enhancing the overall mental health of employees. This abstract aims to explore how organisations can implement PERMA principles to create a supportive work environment that prioritises employee well-being and thus make their employees a greater source of competitive advantage. The PERMA model serves as a tool to cultivate positive emotions through recognition and rewards for work accomplished, promote engagement through meaningful work that benefits not only management and higher- level stakeholders but employees as well, foster strong interpersonal relationships and interdepartmental harmony, and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth, which can further enhance overall employee satisfaction, engagement, and productivity. This paper argued that when organisations begin adopting a PERMA- based HR strategy, it will not only prove beneficial for individual employees but also serve as a sustainable model for the overall success of the organisation in an increasingly complex and competitive landscape. By embracing a more holistic approach to employee well-being, businesses can achieve a more favourable balance between the professional demands that work presents to employees and the personal fulfilment of their goals, ultimately contributing to a healthier, more resilient workforce.
