Abstract
Provides advice on developing an academic library liaison programme between subject specialists/selectors and their student and faculty user groups. Suggestions for learning a department's needs and potential wants include: reading through the curriculum vitae of the faculty; finding out what courses are taught; talking with a predecessor; holding training sessions at various levels; having a presence in the department for a few hours each week; attending faculty meetings; working with academic department liaisons or committees; and teaching credit courses on research methods. In addition, subject specialists need to periodically review their marketing and liaison approaches.
