Water as a natural resource must be evaluated in its different properties, considering that it is an indispensable resource for human development and for all living beings that require it, however, the technologies that are currently used to treat this resource imply the generation of impacts. additional negatives, so it is necessary to search for alternatives for water treatment based on the use of natural coagulants, especially if the water to be treated is intended for human consumption, therefore the objective of this research work is to analyze the application of Solanum tuberosum (potato) starch as a natural coagulant in the water treatment of the Punrún Lagoon. For its development, the methodology of Ttito and Chama was used, which includes the processes of acquisition, washing, cutting, grinding, filtering, drying, and sieving to obtain potato starch as a natural coagulant, in addition to the jar test to determine the dose optimal coagulant. The water samples were extracted from 3 pre-established points on the Punrún lagoon for their initial measurement, the analysis of the behavior of the application of the coagulant was measured through three parameters: turbidity, concentration of metals (lead) and pH, performed 4 treatments using doses of 25; 50; 75 and 100 mg/L of natural coagulant and a control treatment, each with three repetitions. Initial results were obtained for the control or control of 8.52 NTU of turbidity, 0.012 mg/L of lead and 8.20 of pH, which after treatment with the potato coagulant it was possible to reduce to a maximum of 0.55 NTU of turbidity represented by 93.31 % of removal, 0.005 mg/L of Lead with 58.33 % of removal and maintaining the pH at 8.19 and 8.21 with an optimal dose of 50 mg/L of the natural coagulant, likewise all the results of all the treatments yielded values that comply with the current national regulations on water for human consumption and the standard of environmental quality for water (ECA Water), verifying its non-exceedance. Therefore, the positive influence of Solanum tuberosum (potato) starch as a natural coagulant in the treatment of water intended for human consumption is concluded, being an ideal alternative to inorganic coagulants to be used in surrounding rural areas where there is no previous treatment of the water.
