Abstract
Wild type strains of Agrobacterium rhizogenes were isolated from hairy root of melon plants grown in greenhouses located at Chiba prefecture. Two isolates, A 5 and A 13, induced roots from the leaf segments of peanut in vitro. The roots grew vigorously and showed extensive lateral branching on a hormone-free medium. Mikimopine was detected in the extract of these hairy roots.
