Family Support for Medication Compliance in Tuberculosis Patients: Literature Review

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. Most of the estimated TB incidence in 2019 were 7.1 million pulmonary TB patients and decreased in 2020 to 5.8 million TB cases. Several studies have shown that social factors and family motivation significantly affect patient medication adherence. Methods: This study uses a Systematic Review approach using the PRISMA method by analyzing journals between 2017 and 2021. Journal searches were carried out on three Elsevier (scopus) databases, Scince Direct, Google Scholar. Results: A total of 14 articles were not included because they were not relevant to the topic to be discussed, so the remaining 10 articles were relevant to discuss family support for TB patient adherence. Conclusion: Most of the articles state that family support plays a role in adherence to treatment for pulmonary TB patients which has an impact on patient recovery.
