Abstract

The present study deals with a high pressure hydrogen storage vessel, combining an aluminium liner which prevents gas diffusion, and a filament wound composite to reinforce the vessel. This widely used technique still requires important time investments whenever the goal is to store at least 5 kg of hydrogen in the smallest volume. Based on the classical laminate theory and taking into account the plastification of the liner, the model provides an exact solution for stresses and deformations on the cylindrical section of the vessel under thermomechanical static loading. The effect of the stacking sequence on the gap occurrence, on the residual stress magnitude and on the structure durability is then investigated. Further works should then lead us to compare with experiments before an optimisation of the composite laminate staking sequence is performed.
