Abstract

The management of the renal patient includes attempts to make an early diagnosis, prevention of disease progression, and treatment of common complications of chronic kidney disease. Regular assessment and control to defined target levels is crucial for arterial hypertension, proteinuria, secondary hyperparathyroidism, metabolic acidosis, and renal anemia. Another problem remains the excessive cardiovascular mortality of renal patients. New data from multiple multicenter trials have changed existing treatment guidelines. New drugs have become available. This update provides an overview about new treatment guidelines for patients with chronic kidney disease.
