On March 25, 2015, the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice issued a decision related to the investigation of Mariana Lima- Buendía's violent death. This judgment sets forth the first decision related to the femicide. The decision is also relevant as it recognizes the right of women to a life free of violence and discrimination, underlining the authoritie's obligation to investigate and to prosecute with a gender perspective and it also establishes an effort to recognize a comprehensive reparation based on human rights violations. The decision also opens several debates; as the scope of the constitutional parameter control, such as if it is appropriate for a constitutional tribunal to analyze, in detail, a prosecutor's investigation, or the scope of reparations through a writ of protection (juicio de amparo). The decision shows that a judgment may constitute a form of reparation, and a guarantee for the right to truth.
