Imported Fire Ant Control. - Mound Knockdown Plus Insecticide Treatment, 1981

Abstract

Imported fire ants normally exit the mound through an underground tunnel network leaving the mound intact. The following treatments were designed to scrape away the above ground mound parts which would expose these parts plus the brood and ants to direct insecticide application. A tractor-mounted scrape blade was used to “level” the above ground mound parts. A drench treatment applied with a sprayer was immediately applied to an area of 1 m . Various rates of water and toxicant was tested on individual mounds to obtain the best combination. Subsequently, circular replicated plots 150 ft dia with the center 100 ft dia used for data collection were treated.
