Abstract

The effi ciency of geotechni cal an d engineerin g geology surv eys in undeveloped regions can now be ig ni fican tl y improved by integratin g data made avail abl e from th e latest remote ens ing surveill ance techno logy with th e we ll establi hed meth ods of terrain evaluation and ground sampling procedures. A strategy is outlined and illu strated by recent case studies in Southeast Asia, how information acquired fr om th e interpretation of remote se nsing data can be utilised in geotechnical appraisal s of terrain for engineering purposes and integrated with terrain evaluation for establishin g database and managemem systems.
