Abstract
As World Malaria Day approaches again it is timely, as an immunologically focussed community, to consider the consequence of not yet having an efficacious vaccine but also the progress that is being made and the challenges that we face in developing one. Key issues that need to be addressed for the leading vaccine candidates include antigenic polymorphism and loss of immunological memory. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
