Abstract

Experience in southern Africa with Low-input Sustainable Agriculture has not been very successful. For resource-poor farmers, sustainable livelihoods come before sustainable environments. It is possible to design projects to achieve both. It requires project planners to have a good understanding of the circumstances and motives of farm-household managers, natural resources and the communities in which they are organised. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
