Batch spawning behaviour in lightfish Maurolicus muelleri

Abstract

Ovary maturation, type of spawning and batch fecundity of lightfish Maurolicus muelleri are discussed. Histological examination of the ovarian tissue, together with observations of multiple modes in oocyte size frequency distribution, provided definite evidence of serial spawning in this species. Batch fecundity was significantly correlated with fish mass and length. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
