Abstract

In various military and biomedical applications active target detection and localization is a classical signal processing problem. In this project a novel method is proposed for the detection and estimation of Range, velocity and Direction Of Arrival (DOA) of multiple far field targets using wideband chirp signals. Utilizing the plane wave representation of the signals reflected from far-field targets focuses on a modular preprocessing method is intended for the reverberation signals got at a concentric round exhibit. The parameter estimation method for multiple targets is improved on the basis of (i) Fractional Fourier transform that extends a signal onto an ortho normal signal basis by chirps (ii) Root-MUSIC algorithm which is a high resolution DOA estimation method initially proposed for narrowband signals got at a uniform linear array. By using proposed method infinite no of targets can be detectable as long as there is a separable echo signals in fractional Fourier domain which is chosen. Proposed method gives good performance shown in simulation results as the parameters estimated with low root-mean-square errors under difficult conditions like closely spaced targets and low signal-to-noise ratio.
