Abstract

An important role of roadside trees in alleviation impacts of heat and microclimate at highly stressed urban areas. Nonetheless, it has not been completely explored the psychological responses to urban streets surrounded by trees. Fifty-five subjects visited two types of roads: a control road was selected by surrounded buildings and another road surrounded by with London-plane trees. The results show that the short-walk in roads surrounded by trees with vegetation may be effective in reducing negative symptoms of stress, and their recovery results and vitality were significantly increased. The evidence suggests that urban street trees could be an important public health resource for reduced human stress and had a significant cooling and humidifying mitigating effect on microclimate.
