Abstract

Weddellomyces xanthoparmeliae Calatayud et Nav.-Ros. sp. nov., a non lichenized lichenicolous fungus growing on Xanthoparmelia cf. protomatrae, is described from Madrid province (Spain). The new species resembles W. erytbrocarpae by having spores with a very fine ornamentation in the inner perispore and prominent tori in the septa of the young spores. Both taxa differ in the size of the spores, which are smaller in W. xanthoparmeliae, only (22)-23-30-62) x (7)-8-9-(10) pm. Additional chorological data are supplied for three other species of Weddellomyces. W. heterochrous Nav.-Ros. et Cl. Roux is reported from Spain, on Aspicilia desertorum, and W. aff. protearius Nav.-Ros. et Cl. Roux from Austria, on Xanthoria elegans. W. epicallopisma is mentioned for the first time from the Italian Peninsula and from Israel.
