COMPLICAÇÕES RESPIRATÓRIAS NA ESCLEROSE LATERAL AMIOTRÓFICA E MÉTODOS DE REABILITAÇÃO

Abstract

Resumo: A ELA é uma degeneração neuromuscular, com causas não totalmente conhecidas, onde os neurônios motores do córtex cerebral, medula espinhal e tronco cerebral são atingidos. Diversas são as complicações oriundas da ELA, mas a complicação mais notável em portadores desta doença é a degeneração da atividade respiratória, tornando o indivíduo dependente de procedimentos médicos, que podem ser invasivos ou não, para a manutenção da mecânica respiratória e, consequentemente, a sobrevivência. Este presente trabalho aborda também os malefícios causados por essa doença e apresenta maneiras de reabilitação, os quais também serão discutidas neste trabalho. Abstract: ALS is a neuromuscular degeneration, with causes not fully known, where the motor neurons of the cerebral cortex, spinal cord and brainstem are reached. There are several complications arising from ALS, but the most notable complication in patients with ALS is the degeneration of respiratory activity, making the individual dependent on medical procedures, which may be invasive or not, for the maintenance of respiratory mechanics and, consequently, survival. This work also discusses the harm caused by this disease and presents ways of rehabilitation, which will also be discussed in this paper.
