Abstract
3D sensing technologies have been improving over the past few decades, with improvements accelerating in recent years. Structured light methods have the potential to be one of the most important 3D sensing technologies for both scientific research and industrial applications. In this chapter, we first review generic 3D sensing with structured light techniques, and explain the principles behind these methods. We then detail the real-time 3D sensing with digital fringe projection technique, and present some of the recent work towards the development of fast 3D sensing. Structured light 3D sensing technology is becoming increasingly available to fields such as human-computer interaction.
