Abstract

In the modern world, “Smart Retail” is an ever-evolving field. Its significance is increasing daily due to the wide range of technological improvements that we observe every day around us. In this chapter, the authors discuss the wide range of benefits that smart retail provides to the contemporary world, which shows us the need for this developing field. Furthermore, the chapter discusses about various applications in this field, which use technologies and devices that implement Internet of Things, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Majority of the retailers nowadays are slowly moving to smart retailing strategies to keep up with the evolving world and to also reap the benefits of this exciting field. Although smart retail can play a beneficial role in our lives the majority of the time, they do possess few security and privacy issues, which will be talked about next. Finally, the chapter discusses various case studies that have been implemented by a few of the world’s largest retailers like Levi Strauss and Costa Coffee.
