Abstract
This consensus performed by the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (BAN) will approach pratically how to evaluate patients with cognitive complaints and how to perform the clinical and etiological diagnosis of the three clinical syndromes associated with the different stages of cognitive decline: subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. The diagnosis of SCD is discussed for the first time in the BAN consensus and updates for the diagnosis of MCI and dementia are also discussed, as well as the recommendation for the use of adequate cognitive tests, relevant etiological work up and care of patients with cognitive decline at different levels of care in Sistema Único de Saúde, Brazilian public health system. A revision of the main assessment instruments used in our country and in Latin America was performed.
