Essential Amino Acid Profile of Three Groups of Ruminant Feed Sources

Abstract

Aim of this study was to examine Essential Amino Acids (EAA) of three groups of ruminant feed sources. Sample of forages (11 types of grasses and six types of legumes) were taken from dry-land at Grati, East Java and two types of concentrates were from local manufacturer as well. EAA of samples were determined by using HPLC Chromatogram. The data collected were analyzed descriptively by-using the Mean and Standard Error of Mean. Results showed that EAA (His, Ile, Leu, Lys Met, Phe, Tri, Thr, and Val) in grasses, each had an average (mg/g ± SEM) 0.9 ± 0.10, 0.7 ± 0.10, 0.9 ± 0.11, 0.9 ± 0.09, 1.2 ± 0.14, 0.5 ± 0.09, 1.4 ± 0.15, 0.5 ± 0.05, and 1.2 ± 0.1. While in legumes, each has an average of 2.8 ± 0.25, 2.1 ± 0.16, 3.0 ± 0.2, 2.6 ± 0.19, 1.2 ± 0.09, 1.4 ± 0.11, 4.3 ± 0.33, 1.4 ± 0.13, 3.7 ± 0.27. The highest Tri content was in grasses (1.4 mg/g) and legumes (4.3 mg/g), followed by Val (1.2 vs. 3.8 mg/g), and His (0.9 vs. 2.8 mg/g). EAA in concentrates were range from 5.7-23.2 mg/g. Overall, Tri, Val, and Leu were dominate. The highest content of them was found in P. triloba (legumes) and P. dilatatum (grasses). It can be concluded that the proportion of EAA in legumes was two times higher than in grasses, while concentrates had 20 times greater than those on legumes. The highest to the lowest proportion of EAA in three feeds, such as: Tri, Val, Leu, His, Lys, Ile, Phe, Thr, and Met.
