Abstract
Due to lack of diagnostic and predictive to assess the effectiveness of compensation and predict the critical operation of capacitor banks, failures that lead to the correction of the power factor is not performed so occur effective. Integrating a system of data acquisition, programmable logic controller, a friendly interface and a communication protocol Modbus, when testing, the contribution of each step was obtained and determined, indirectly, its effect on the current of each one phase. The relative error obtained was 0.03 kVAr step and 1.6 kVAr for the bank, being permissible to be less than the margin of effectiveness of 75% expected to consider the step is damaged or not. The validation of the system in a real bank in operation, deviations from the expected value were within the expected range, being feasible to be applied in electrical installations lacking a monitoring and diagnostics of installed banks.
