Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is defined as feeding infants from newborns until the age of 6 months as basic infant nutrition, without adding and/or replacing it other foods and beverages. The achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia in 2019 was 67.74%. Based on previous studies breastfeeding can be used by mothers as a contraceptive called lactational amenorrhea method but there are 65.7% of mothers who do not use it. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of exclusive breastfeeding and breastfeeding frequency on the return of the fertile period in postpartum mothers. The sample was 23 postpartum mothers who had children aged 6-18 months. Research design using a quantitative method of correlation analytic with cross-sectional time approach and data analysis is chi-square test. The results showed mothers with a return a fertile more period more than 6 months a number of 20 respondents (87%), mothers with a return of fertile period less than 6 months a number of 3 respondents (13%) with a p-value of 0,000 (α <0.05). It can be concluded that there is an relationship of exclusive breastfeeding and breastfeeding frequency on the return of the fertile period of postpartum mothers.
