Abstract

A simplified experimental procedure based on the one‐step outflow method for the determination of soil water diffusivity is suggested. The simplified method requires the measurement of two outflow volumes at two times during a one‐step outflow experiment plus the final outflow volume. The suggested experimental procedure is very simple, does not require specialized experimental equipment and can be easily adopted for routine laboratory work. The method is based on the empirical model by Valiantzas et al. for the determination of soil water diffusivity from experimental one‐step outflow data. The comparison between the proposed two‐point outflow method and the method of Valiantzas based on the conventional one‐step outflow method showed convergence of the results.
