Psicopatología y psicopatía

Abstract

El artículo distingue claramente entre psicopatología —el estudio científico de los trastornos mentales, sus causas biológicas, psicológicas y sociales— y psicopatía, un trastorno de personalidad caracterizado por rasgos afectivos, interpersonales y conductuales (manipulación, falta de empatía, impulsividad). Revisa su evolución histórica, desde creencias demonológicas hasta los criterios de Cleckley y la PCL-R de Hare, y cómo el DSM y la CIE los abordan. Señala que confundir ambos conceptos genera diferentes problemáticas, desde la estigmatización social, hasta diagnósticos erróneos e incluso decisiones judiciales antijurídicas. Diferenciarlos promueve intervenciones éticas y basadas en evidencia, lo que permite reducir prejuicios y mejorar la atención clínica.The article clearly distinguishes between psychopathology —the scientific study of mental disorders, their biological, psychological, and social causes— and psychopathy, a personality disorder characterized by affective, interpersonal and behavioral traits (manipulation, lack of empathy, impulsivity). It reviews their historical evolution, from demonological beliefs to Cleckley’s criteria and Hare’s PCL-R, and how the DSM and ICD address them. It points out that confusing both concepts generates different problems ranging from social stigmatization, misdiagnosis and even unfair judicial decisions.
