Abstract

Initiatives of sustainable development require acceptance and participation of the people. This is crucial for Melaka state which wants to be a Green Technology City State by 2020. This paper evaluates the people’s acceptance and participation of these programs. Observations, responses from 152 samples, and in depth interview of officers were analysed. The study suggests the respondents are aware of the green city’s vision, mostly from social media. The popular initiatives are Melaka Without Plastic Bag and Polystyrene, Green Transportation and 2+1 Recycling Program. However, the level of people’s involvement in the initiative introduced is relatively low.
