Abstract

Bovine spermatozoa from one ejaculate from nine bulls, extended in milk and 10% glycerol, were frozen in glass ampules. A split sample technique was used to compare fertility levels resulting from semen deposition 4, 8, and 12 cm anterior to the external uterine orifice. A mean total of 51 ± 5.1 first inseminations was made to each ejaculate at each depth. Depth of insemination was controlled by plastic washers cemented to insemination rods. Statistical analysis of fertility data favored semen deposition at the 8-cm over the 4-cm depth (P < .05). © 1968, American Dairy Science Association. All rights reserved.
