Abstract
Forest characteristics in Java can be divided into three categories that are (1) private forest which is purely cultivated by trees, (2) private forest cultivated by fruits crop and trees, and (3) private forest cultivated by trees, fruits crop and empon-empon (herbs). This Research was conducted in Java, that covers regions of East Java that is Pasuruan, Tulungagung and Nganjuk districts, Central Java that is Semarang, Magelang, Pemalang and Gunung Kidul districts. Thelocation are chosen based on perceives difference in private forest characteristics in Java. The differences in characteristics are expected to represent private forest in Java. Data collected were primary and secondary data. Analysis was conducted based on social and economic aspect. Social analysis was analyses descriptive qualitative, while economic analysis used benefit cost analysis, in order to know the profitability of cultivating of private forest during harvesting cycle. The result of research revealed that (1) tree species which are preffered by farmers in Java are teak, mahoni, albizia, suren, pine, and sonokeling, (2) differences of private forest product fray due district to another district are due to differences of local biophysic and trees density, (3) cultivation tree species based on altitudes is for lowland cultivated by teak, mahoni, sonokeling and acacia, in moderate land altitude cultivated by mahoni, suren, and albizia, and plateu cultivated by albizia, afrika and pine, (4) the selection of trees species are also based on selling price, marketing, preference cultivation, management consideration, profit are influenced by market price, harvesting cycle and trees density and (5) the highest profit is generated by albizia for location in West Java and East Java that gives BCR 2,73-13,46, IRR 13%-38%, and NPV Rp. 7.996.351-65.429.565/Ha, while financial performance of teak shows low feasibility.
