Sustainable development is one of the issues that has concentrated the attention of diverse academic fields, especially in developing countries. However, efforts have been limited to describe and decompose the economic, social and environmental dimensions of this issue neglecting its measurement and evaluation. the design of indicators, a normal action in other contexts, embodies a dificulty to obtain integrated results. Regularly, the trend is to obtain independent measures for each dimension, that are then averaged into a sole indicator. In an attempt to overcome these procedures and to animate this debate, this paper proposes a General Index of Sustainable Performance originated from local indicators for the city of Bogota, using multivariate statistical techniques for its processing. the objective is to provide a tool that supports decision making for researchers and local authorities. © EURE.
